In case you don't remember where your family lives this holiday season, you could ask for a TomTom ONE XL. This device has a gigantic 4.3-inch LCD screen. It also obviously includes TomTom's mapping software, that is a personal favorite of mine. Slap one of these on your windshield and you will be one heck of a hip and trendy driver and be able to find your way around, easily. It is available for $250. [Product Page]

damn shame there's no multimedia capibilities.
does it come with handlebar mounts? I want it for my mountain bike.
Wow, 3 Sidekick LX banners on one page! Exciting to say the [most].
In other news, this is pretty cheap for a TomTom with such a large screen.
I'd go for the Garmin 200w for around the same price.
I've had TomToms and their software all fall short in one respect: grossly miscalculating travel time and ETA. Just yesterday, I had to go somewhere that's 26 miles away. The road's speed limit was 55mph (most people, of course, go 10 mph faster). TomTom estimated that it'd take me ONE HOUR to get there. I got there in 1/2 hour, per simple math.
I like TomToms overall interface but this ETA errors bugs me big time. I have various appointments within a 50 mile radius and I don't like to leave earlier than I have to.
A friend of mile has a Garmin 350 and it's way more accurate with regard to ETA.
POIs are also lacking on my tomtom. I went for the tomtom one over the magellan 3200 because it said 5 million POI's versus the 3200's 1.3 million. I was sadly disspointed whenever i have to look for a retail store, i got the update from tomtom and still it only finds targets, radio shacks, and best buys nothing more.
TomToms are crap usually finishing last when compared to Garmin and Magellan.
i just got one yesterday. So far, its awesome vs my fathers magellan roadmate. I will know more when I take it on 850 mile trip this weekend.
I was really excited about my XL-S. But yesterday, the directions told me to go the wrong way through a one-way loop and then through a paid parking lot. And the place I was traveling from was a built-in POI. All this happened while I was trying to get my wife interested in using a GPS. Are TomTom's always this crappy?
My TomTom One XL had instances where satellite strength dropped to zero suddenly in wide open spaces with no obstructions. This happened about four or five times, and took up to an hour to acquire satellites again.
Last time it happened, I was prepared and had my Magellan hand held in the car with me. It was able to quickly lock on to enough satellites for an excellent position fix, so I called TomTom to see what they had to say. To their credit, I got through to a human being within a few minutes, and he told me to download the latest application software (installs in the TomTom, not the Home software), and delete the current application before writing the new one. From all appearances, it seems to have worked, but I don't really trust the thing anymore, and won't until I see that the problems are behind me.
Long story short...buy a Garmin.
