So you've already given that loved one an iPod, so that is nixed for this year's gift ideas, but how about a speaker dock to companion that iPod. There are hundreds of docks out there, but the number one on the block is the Griffin Amplifi. This is a simple and beautiful dock that sounds great and functions even better. How do I know? Well, it beat out 19 other competitors to win the iPod dock Battlemodo. The Amplifi is available for $130. [Griffin]

Apart from plugging your iPod into a football stadium's PA system, this thing seems like a cool way to boost iPod volume drastically. Still, there's something odd about porting your sleek, small iPod on a huge block with a knob in the middle. There's just something bulky about it. Why can't they make loud things in small packages?
@michaelportent: loud things in small packages... you mean like kathy griffin? oh wait...that would be loud and obnoxious in a small package.. sorry my mistake
I've got people asking all the time what dock I would recommend, and since I don't know too much about them (other than the fact that our docks are pieces of sh*t) I can't give them more than my honest opinion. Now I've got something to tell them. W00t!
If only it had iphone support. In fact, no speakers out there are currently compatible with the iphone. What gives?
Speaking of iPhone support, I was at Target the other day and I popped my iPhone into a iHome iH52B, it's 2.1 audio. Sounded awesome, with plenty of volume to spare. Only thing is I was already playing a song on my iPhone when I walked up to the display so I didn't try any of the controls to see if it controlled/interacted with the iPhone. Also it's $200, which some people might not go for, but if you're willing to pay $130 for a griffin, why not spend $200 on a system with 2 front 2way speakers and a powered Subwoofer.

Sure, it doesn't have every feature under the sun, but the Amplifi rocks, at a tasty price, too!
