pretty weird that they're not using the same sensor as the 450d (rebel XSI), since that's been the trend for a while now, also since that sensor's received more or less universal praise, and since i don't think the way to beat the d300 is in megapixels

The "wonky" AF would be helped by a faster lens (say the 17-55mm f2.8 IS)
or even better fast normal prime like canon's 28mm f1.8 or sigma's 30mm f1.4
