ok, so im writing this from the linux mint live cd. wireless works perfectly out of the box, obviously. the whole thing is a bit tidier than regular ubuntu, sort of a mix of KDE and XFE in feel. it's very ubuntu-ish except for *ta da* it already has things like flash and java and whatnot installed, as well as codecs for mp3s and all that jazz. so think of it as ubuntu with some quirks but less finagling needed. ive only been on here 5 minutes and i can honestly recommend at least giving it a whirl.

turns out Kubuntu doesnt have the same problem, so i installed that instead (must be a Gnome issue) and since my mint DL from yesterday got f'd up, i just got done burning the cd, will try mint tonight probably, and letcha know

dunno, if all the variants of *buntus ive got here (i have 5 now) give me the same damn video problem (incoherent garbled colored crap) then ill be giving mint a try - i read good things about it, not the least of which is included codecs and flash and such (violates the GPL, i think but who cares?)

In my dream house, there will be LCD panel built in to the front door that will normally display the pattern of the door, so it will appear normal. When you push the door bell, it will either become a sliding door with the guy from wizard of OZ or a video of the eye from Jabba the Hutts palace door. And a camera of course to video tape people. Door to Door salesmen will get a Linda Blair picture flash with a scream playing.
