One of the most under appreciated gifts is the GPS system. Paper maps are great, but nothing tops a little digital screen telling you where to go and how to get there. Not get one over the holidays? No worries. Take back all of the sweaters and and clothing for one of these, the Garmin Nuvi 660.
The Nuvi 660 has an extremely accurate GPS receiver, text-to-speech and will even keep an eye on the traffic. Bluetooth and a robust software suite are the cherries on top of this GPS sundae. The Nuvi 660 is available for $700. [Best Buy]

$700 is a MASSIVE RIP-OFF for one of these. Its $461 with free shipping from Amazon. If you buy anything from Worst Buy you're an idiot and should be deported.
Go To costco.com and type in GPS. They are selling the Garmin Nuvi 650 for $299!! I bought one for myself for x-mas and love it. It has all the features you need and none you don't. No bluetooth unfortunately but text-to-speech directions are a must have. And for four hundred dollars less than the 660, it is WELL worth it IMO.
hello....here. e-cost anyone? geeze. Who would spend that much for a nav nowdays? I get the advertising dollars giz, but dont sell your soul!
Under appreciated?? If someone gave me a GPS, I certainly wouldn't under appreciate it!
Does Buy More pay you guys for these adverposts? If so, do they realize there would be commentards like us to point out how shitty the deal is?
BTW, Dash Express, FTW!
Damn, Tomtom is $149.
Picked one up at Fry's on Black Friday for ~$350.
GPSs are becoming so ubiquitous these days that you should shop around for deals. $700, sheesh. Does that come with lube?
@androgenous_wombat: Hah, yes! I get it! Lube for the sodomy!
For real, $700 for ANY Garmin is ridiculous. Hell, I'll even go as far as saying any GPS period. Unless of course the GPS actually drives the car from point A to point B for me, while displaying porn too raunchy for Sweeden as it blasts Kiss' "I Was Made for Loving You" through my car's speakers...
Wait, I was trying to make a point. Um...hmm.
Yes - Nuvi 650 over 660 anyday.
1. Bluetoot hands-free calling. If the unit sits on its holder hanging from a windshield, then it 3-4 feet from your mouth. In most cars, the background noise is going to be unacceptably loud for the person on the other end. Besides, our GPS will be mostly off - unless we turn it on for direction finding. To have it on all the time, then we have to have the power plugged in with its dangly cord. Yuk.
2. FM transmitter - Nice idea but we usually like to flipping stations while driving or have a CD/mp3 player as source. Are you really going to keep your radio to an unused frequency just so you can hear the turn directions. The built in speaker should be loud enough. If it isn't, then it's a design fault (The TomToms get louder as you drive faster). Oh, you can play mp3 from the Garmin? Big whoop.
Yes - TomTom One for $149 is a great buy but it SUCKS at estimating travel time/ETA. Garmin fares better in this regard.
I got one for my wife for $399 @ Amazon on Black Monday with free shipping & no tax. She's sitting next to me right now and freaked when she thought I paid $700.
sorry Cyber Monday FTSU
I'd gladly pay $700 for a Garmin G1000. Just Saying.
get the 700 series.. no flip out antenna; i got the 360 in september for $412, so prices have come down a long way. fyi they make an external mic that plugs into the unit to make the BT more efficient. i use it all the time and it comes in handy when driving a stick-shift.
@BOOGNISH :: I just pictured you and your wife surfing Gizmodo together, sitting side by side staring at a 24" monitor. And then I threw up a little bit in my mouth. :)
I got one from Fry's for $400. And it's way better than TomTom
Don't be tempted by those 700 series devices until you make sure that they have worked the kinks out of them. I've read alot of complaining on the internet and comments by reviewers that they take *forever* to get a satellite signal when you first power them up. I have a 680 (similar to the 650 but with bluetooth and MSN traffic/weather/gas prices) The device does have a flip out antenna, but it is small and never gets in the way. It even looks nice. This antenna works flawlessly and I get satellite signals within seconds of power up. Buyer beware...
By the way, the 680 was at Costco last week for $479.
